The Electric Improv Lab was founded in 2003 with the purpose of exploring the musical possibilities of free improvisation within an electroacoustic environment. Over the last six years the EIL has held dozens of open jam sessions and staged performances in a variety of venues in southern Ontario. Activities in 2008-09 included four open jam sessions in Studio A, a performance at Toronto's Somewhere There as part of the Leftover Daylight series, and a multimedia collaboration with visual artist Laura Shintani entitled Synaesthetic Synapses of Childhood.

Over the summer of 2009 the EIL collaborated with Dutch painter Tali Farchi and American painter Royce Deans for two performances combining improvised music and visual art.

In addition to occasional appearances at local venues in 2009-10, the Electric Improv Lab will host a series of open jam sessions in Studio A (Lambton Tower) at the Unviersity of Windsor. These sessions are open to those wishing to participate or observe, and will take place on October 8, November 19, January 21, and February 25. All sessions begin at 7:30.
